Coaching Staff
Scott Gegogeine - Head Coach Head Coach

Scott Gegogeine is new to the Marlins’ coaching team, but not new to the Marlins family! A Rancho Cordova native, he swam with the Marlins from age 9-14 before moving on to swim year round for both USA Swim’s Rancho Arroyo Swim Club and Hiram Johnson’s swim team.

During this time, he started lifeguarding, teaching swimming lessons for all ages (infant to adult) and coaching, first as Assistant Coach for the Laguna Creek Gators. He then served as Head Coach of the Foothill Flyers before also coaching the Folsom Sea Otters and Valley High swim teams.

When Scott’s not coaching, he teaches 6th grade for the Elk Grove School District, 2023 is his 19th year teaching. He started his career in early childhood education and has experience teaching 4th-8th grades. His coaching and teaching are both rooted in building relationships and using different strategies to teach the concepts. Nothing beats the moment when a swimmer realizes they’ve figured out the proper technique or they try a slight adjustment that improves their time.

Scott is looking forward to helping each swimmer achieve their goals, while also building a program to develop the next generation of coaches.

In his free time, he enjoys traveling, golfing, watching sports and spending time with his wife and daughter, who is a 2nd generation Blue Marlin. GO MARLINS!!!

Jake Cochran - Assistant Coach Assistant Coach

Jake Cochran has an extensive background in swimming, having participated in rec, club, and high school swimming for 11 years. He is currently finishing up the season coaching the Cordova High School team.

Jake graduated from Granite Bay High School in 2020, attended Sierra College for the first two years before finishing his education at Sac State with a Bachelor of the Arts in History.  After graduation, he will be attending graduate school to obtain his teaching credential and masters degree. Jake is excited for a great season!

Raul Lopez - Assistant Coach Assistant Coach

Raul Lopez is ecstatic to begin his third season coaching the Cordova Blue Marlins! He spent eleven years swimming for the Cordova Blue Marlins and spent his last couple of years transitioning into the role as a swimmer/coach. He became a member of the coaching staff to support our young swimmers in reaching their sporting objectives!

Raul was raised in Rancho Cordova, where he went to Cordova High School. Raul began swimming when he was just eight years old and joined the Cordova Blue Marlins. Despite his initial struggles, Raul rapidly advanced over the stage of merely learning to swim well and qualified for the MOC, specializing in the Butterfly, Backstroke, and Individual Medley! He firmly believes that athletes should be taught the technical parts of their sport so they can come up with original and creative approaches to increase their own.

Outside of coaching, Raul was a wrestler at Cordova High and will be wrestling at Sierra college this upcoming season! Raul is privileged to have worked with phenomenal athletes of all types, and is excited to help all of our athletes achieve their goals in and out of the water during the 2023 season! GO MARLINS!

Sam Robinson - Assistant Coach Assistant Coach

Sam Robinson is returning to the Cordova Blue Marlins this season, this time as an Assistant Coach! Sam grew up swimming with the Marlins from age 10-18, and also swam throughout her high school career with Cordova. She’s never strayed far from the Cordova pool, however, having lifeguarded and taught swimming lessons here on and off for more than a decade.

Sam isn’t new to coaching swim either. She served as Assistant Coach for the Gold River Sting Rays, while attending college before starting her teaching career. She’s currently in her fourth year  teaching 4th grade at Bradshaw Christian School.

In both coaching and teaching, she believes in building strong relationships, setting goals and looking at mistakes as a learning opportunity. She looks forward to helping each swimmer accomplish their goals this year and build on their technique.

Outside of swimming and teaching, Sam can be found reading, cooking, being outdoors and spending time with her husband and daughter, who will be joining the Blue Marlins as soon as she’s old enough.

Katia Ax - Assistant Coach Assistant Coach

Katia Ax is back for her second season coaching the Blue Marlins, and is incredibly excited to get to know the Blue Marlins both big and small! She has swam for the Blue Marlins since she was 11 and has swam on different teams even before that. She then realized that she could use her knowledge of the sport to help younger swimmers develop their skills and get better!

Katia has grown up in the Sacramento area, and initially joined the team to learn how to swim efficiently. She quickly mastered that and now specializes in the 50 and 100 Breastroke. She believes very strongly in teaching athletes about the technical aspects of the sport, so they can think of new and unique ways to grow their own success and passion for the sport.

Outside of coaching, Katia enjoys practicing gymnastics to hone her skills in a different area! Katia is privileged to have worked with phenomenal athletes of all types, and is excited to help all of our athletes achieve their goals in and out of the water during the 2023 season! GO MARLINS!!!

Bhavik Cazier - Assistant Coach Assistant Coach

Bhavik Cazier is a long time Cordova Blue Marlins swimmer. This year, his ninth,  he’ll be coaching in addition to swimming for the team! He loves the energy of the other swimmers, and sharing his experience helping others grow. He excelled in Breaststroke, qualifying for Meet of Champs in 2022 and finishing in 15th place overall.

In addition to swimming, coaching, teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding, Bhavik enjoys theater and plays trumpet. He’s looking forward to working with the other swimmers to improve their times and techniques and achieving their goals together!

Mary DiSilvestro - Assistant Coach Assistant Coach

Mary DiSilvestro is entering her ninth year as a Cordova Blue Marlin, and second year as an Assistant Coach. Swimming has been part of her life for as long as she can remember, starting with her older siblings swimming and continuing to her younger siblings who are currently Blue Marlins, too. Mary also swims on her high school team, Bradshaw Christian, and has worked as a lifeguard.

Mary has always been energized by  teaching and helping kids. She appreciates the encouragement and motivation she’s received from her coaches and looks forward to passing it along to other swimmers. Mary loves being a part of the Marlins community and is looking forward to continuing to encourage her teammates as they meet their goals this season.

Andrew Tolamatl - Assistant Coach Assistant Coach

Andrew Tolamatl has been swimming for 8 years and is ready to coach his third year for the Cordova Blue Marlins. He is excited to teach the upcoming generations about his passion in the water. Andrew grew up in Rancho Cordova and recently graduated from Christian Brothers High School.

He will be heading to American River College for the next two years, where he’s planning to continue swimming while he studies kinesiology to later pursue employment in sports medicine. His favorite part of coaching has been seeing the kids improve in their times and strokes. He can’t wait to see the swimmers achieve their goals both in and out of the pool.
