Scott Gegogeine has been coaching the Marlins for 2 years now. As a Rancho Cordova native, he swam with the Marlins from age 9-14 before moving on to swim year-round for both USA Swim’s Rancho Arroyo Swim Club and Hiram Johnson’s swim team.
During this time, he started lifeguarding, teaching swimming lessons for all ages (infant to adult) and coaching, first as Assistant Coach for the Laguna Creek Gators. He then served as Head Coach of the Foothill Flyers before also coaching the Folsom Sea Otters and Valley High swim teams.
When Scott’s not coaching, he teaches 6th grade for the Elk Grove School District, 2025 is his 21st year teaching. He started his career in early childhood education and has experience teaching 4th-8th grades. His coaching and teaching are both rooted in building relationships and using different strategies to teach the concepts. Nothing beats the moment when a swimmer realizes they’ve figured out the proper technique or they try a slight adjustment that improves their time. Scott is looking forward to helping each swimmer achieve their goals, while also building a program to develop the next generation of coaches.
In his free time, he enjoys traveling, golfing, watching sports and spending time with his wife and daughter, who is a 2nd generation Blue Marlin. GO MARLINS!!!
Alex Kleinman recently relocated to Rancho Cordova from the Bay Area and brings over a decade of competitive swimming experience to the community. He spent 12 years in the sport, primarily with the Newark Bluefins, where his passion for swimming evolved into a commitment to coaching. Alex is in his 5th year of coaching and is dedicated to fostering a love for the sport in his athletes, aiming to inspire them to become lifelong swimmers. He is excited to join the Marlins and looks forward to supporting swimmers not only in their athletic development but also in their personal growth.
In addition to coaching, Alex is a student pilot with nearly 100 flight hours, aspiring to pursue a career as an airline pilot. Outside of the pool and the flight deck, he enjoys spending time in nature and exploring other sports.
Home is not a place, it is a feeling (Cecelia Ahern), and Alex’s home is on a pool deck.
Jonathan Dressler is new to the Marlins' coaching staff and new to coaching, but not new to the Marlins swim team. His children, Jacob and Kaiya, have been swimming with the team since 2012. He has been the head starter for the Marlins for the past 12 years. He swam for the Glen Oaks Sea Lions for 10 years and swam for the American River Patriots in long-course for 2 years. He received 6 years of private swim lessons and stroke technique training. Outside of coaching, Jonathan teaches music, band, and drama to TK-6th grades at Delta Elementary Charter School in Clarksburg and has been there for the past 8 years. He has been teaching for 21 years and has taught every grade from TK-12th. Teaching a skill-based subject, Jonathan is well-attuned to the needs of each individual to achieve their greatest personal success while helping each young person find a greater purpose by using their gifts to benefit the team. He is excited to combine his knowledge of swimming and his experience in teaching to benefit the Cordova Blue Marlins swim team. He believes that every swimmer has the capacity for either a break-out swim or a break-out year and that mastering the technique and dialing it in for that individual's style is the key to unlocking their greatest potential. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys movies, video games, board games, creating stories, and is involved in the drama team and orchestra at his church. He is looking forward to coaching his daughter in her final year with the Marlins.
I’m excited to return as a coach this year. I was raised in a swim family and swam for the Marlins for seven years. I’m currently swimming for American River College, and my favorite events are the 100 back, 200 back, 100 free, and 50 free.
When I’m not swimming or around a pool, I enjoy golfing on the weekends. I’m a student at ARC right now and plan to transfer to a four year next spring for engineering. I look forward to getting to know all of our swimmers throughout the year and helping improve their skills!
Andrew Tolamatl has been swimming for 9 years and is ready to coach his fourth year for the Cordova Blue Marlins. He is excited to teach the upcoming generations about his passion in the water. Andrew grew up in Rancho Cordova and recently graduated from Christian Brothers High School.
He is currently attending American River College, where he’s currently swimming, while he studies kinesiology to later pursue employment in sports medicine. His favorite part of coaching has been seeing the kids improve in their times and strokes. He can’t wait to see the swimmers achieve their goals both in and out of the pool.
Bhavik Cazier is a long time Cordova Blue Marlins swimmer. This year, his ninth, he’ll be coaching in addition to swimming for the team! He loves the energy of the other swimmers, and sharing his experience helping others grow. He excelled in Breaststroke, qualifying for Meet of Champs in 2022 and finishing in 13th place overall.
In addition to swimming, coaching, teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding, Bhavik enjoys theater and plays trumpet. He’s looking forward to working with the other swimmers to improve their times and techniques and achieving their goals together!
Mary DiSilvestro is entering her ninth year as a Cordova Blue Marlin, and second year as an Assistant Coach. Swimming has been part of her life for as long as she can remember, starting with her older siblings swimming and continuing to her younger siblings who are currently Blue Marlins, too. Mary also swims on her high school team, Bradshaw Christian, and has worked as a lifeguard.
Mary has always been energized by teaching and helping kids. She appreciates the encouragement and motivation she’s received from her coaches and looks forward to passing it along to other swimmers. Mary loves being a part of the Marlins community and is looking forward to continuing to encourage her teammates as they meet their goals this season.
